National Tree Day

Join Brimbank Council and Friends of Kororoit Creek for a hands-on, exciting day of giving back to nature at Kororoit Creek in Sunshine West.

We are creating new habitat along Kororoit Creek to help wildlife move safely up and down the creek. To do this we will be replacing a large patch of weedy grass with lots of beautiful native grasses that will provide habitat for native pollinators.

What to Expect:

  • Planting native grasses

  • Learning about the different flora and fauna along the creek

  • Meeting like-minded neighbours and enjoying the fresh air

  • Light refreshments and fun activities for the kids!

What to Bring:

  • Closed-toe shoes

  • Weather-appropriate clothes (it's winter in Melbourne so be prepared for rain, hail and shine)

  • Sun protection (hat, sunscreen),

  • Reusable water bottle

  • Gloves (optional—we’ll have extras!)

All welcome - kids encouraged as long as they are supervised by an adult.

Parking: There is some free parking at Buckingham Reserve, with plenty of additional street parking available in surrounding streets. To get to the planting site, follow the signs from Buckingham Reserve carpark.

Toilets: There are public, accessible toilets within 100 metres of the planting site at Buckingham Reserve.

Accessibility: This event is taking place on a relatively flat piece of land near to the creek. It is less than 100 metres from Buckingham Reserve carpark. The planting will take place on a flat grassy area that near to the Kororoit Creek Shared User path. We will have some chairs available for those that will need to sit down for breaks.

If you have accessibility questions, please get in touch and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Contact environment@brimbank.vic.gov.au if you have any questions about the event.

This event is a collaboration between Brimbank City Council and Friends of Kororoit Creek, with support of the Victorian Government through the Green Links Program.

NOTE: The FOKC will have a stall selling our gorgeous 2026 calendars - so bring your $20 notes and cards and give generously for the betterment of the creek!

Look forward to seeing you there for a fantastic day.
